Platform Infrastructure & Optics Software Engineer

Our client, technology and networking industry is seeking a Platform Infrastructure & Optics Software Engineer to join their team. As a Platform Infrastructure & Optics SW Eng, you will be part of the engineering organization supporting platform infrastructure and optics software development and troubleshooting. The ideal candidate will have strong hands-on C programming skills, proven Linux/Unix system-level debugging experience, and the ability to perform root-cause analysis across software, operating system, hardware, and optics layers which will align successfully in the organization.

Job Title: Platform Infrastructure & Optics Software Engineer

Location:San Jose, California (Onsite)

Pay Range: $45 - $50/hr

What's the Job?

• Develop, enhance, and maintain platform infrastructure software for Cisco 8000 Series routing platforms.
• Develop and integrate software components related to optics and optical interfaces, ensuring reliable platform behavior.
• Design and implement system-level software using C, with strong attention to memory management and performance.
• Work on Linux/Unix-based operating systems, system services, processes, memory, IPC, and low-level system interfaces.
• Debug complex issues spanning platform software, operating system behavior, hardware interactions, optics components, and networking interfaces.

What's Needed?

• Strong hands-on programming experience in C, including pointers, memory management, and core data structures (e.g., linked lists, queues, trees, hash tables).
• Solid understanding of Linux/Unix operating system concepts, including processes, threads, IPC, signals, sockets, and system-level programming.
• Proven debugging and analytical skills using tools such as GDB, core dumps, crash analysis, logs, and traces, with the ability to troubleshoot multi-layer problems.
• Experience with platform or embedded/system software development, including hardware/software interfaces and platform-level functionality.
• Experience with optics-related development is highly desirable, including transceivers, optics management, or optical platform software; router/switch or networking equipment experience is preferred.
