Product Engineer - Sauna, Wellness Products

Work Mode: Onsite

Location: Onsite 4 days per week – Kohler, WI 

Opportunity

The primary responsibility of the Engineer-Product is to deliver innovative consumer sauna products as part of a highly collaborative and global cross-functional team. This role combines strong technical fundamentals, clear communication, and a structured approach to product development; working with the team to bring products from initial concept through to production.

We are looking for someone who:

  • Leverages creative problem solving and sound engineering judgment to design innovative, cost-effective, and functional wellness products that delight customers and represent the Kohler brand.
  • Collaborates effectively with cross-functional teams including marketing/product management, program management, industrial design, quality, and manufacturing operations to deliver products on time and within budget.
  • Applies established systems and tools to analyze customer needs, define product requirements, and support delivery of product solutions.
  • Supports feasibility testing, prototyping, and evaluation of design concepts; uses data to validate designs and recommend improvements.
  • Communicates clearly in written and verbal formats and shares the right level of detail to enable decisions and progress.
  • Takes accountability for commitments, learns quickly through experimentation, and stays organized while working on multiple priorities.
  • Is familiar coordinating work across regions and cultures as part of a global engineering organization.
  • Is onsite in Kohler, WI office 4 days/week (Monday-Thursday).

Responsibilities

  • Support product and solution development activities from concept through production, using established systems, processes, and documentation practices.
  • Generate and support product specifications that address customer needs, regulatory requirements, and technical requirements.
  • Contribute to engineering solutions design by supporting feasibility testing of proposed solutions and providing feedback and data to validate designs.
  • Create and maintain engineering drawings and models to support communication, evaluation, and implementation of engineering solutions.
  • Support prototype development activities, including coordinating builds, documenting results, and incorporating learnings into design updates.
  • Design and execute test procedures and standards based on product specifications; support qualification and verification testing.
  • Collect, collate, and analyze data using preset tools and methods; summarize findings to inform design decisions and trade-offs.
  • Conduct technical troubleshooting and basic diagnostic problem solving related to equipment, prototypes, and product experiments.
  • Support project management activities by tracking tasks, timelines, and risks; escalate issues appropriately and help remove blockers.
  • Identify opportunities for product improvements, enhanced features, and cost or manufacturability optimization; implement design modifications under guidance as needed.
  • Utilize 3D CAD software (PTC Creo preferred) for the realization of concepts or designs.
  • Work closely with engineers, support personnel, suppliers, and other outside groups involving product design, documentation, development, drafting, prototype construction, and testing of product concepts.
  • Occasional travel to visit the sauna development center (Germany), customers, tradeshows, and other Kohler locations (including global locations) as required.
  • Clearly and effectively present (both written and orally) the results of work to project teams and/or management as appropriate in English; document learnings to share knowledge within and outside the department.
  • Build personal capability by participating in training and development activities; maintain understanding of relevant technology, external regulation, and industry best practices.

Skills/Requirements

  • Bachelors degree in an engineering discipline from an ABET accredited university (or equivalent).
  • 0-4 years related work experience in a Mechanical Engineering or product development role (experience level will be aligned to the scope of assigned projects).
  • Ability to apply structured problem solving and make timely decisions; knows when to work independently and when to seek guidance or escalate.
  • Ability to collaborate with US and global teams to execute the product development process; builds effective working relationships across functions.
  • Clear written and verbal communication skills; able to document work and present results with appropriate detail.
  • Proficiency in 3D CAD software (PTC Creo preferred).
  • Working knowledge of engineering tools and methods such as prototyping, simulation, DFA, DFMEA, and basic statistical/analytical techniques (preferred).
  • Understanding of UL standards and certification processes (preferred).
  • Experience with electrical and electromechanical components/systems (preferred).
  • Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to plan and prioritize work to meet commitments.
  • Demonstrated learning agility and curiosity; builds technical capability through training, coaching, and self-directed learning.

The specific salary offered to a candidate may be influenced by a variety of factors including the candidate’s experience, their education, and the work location. In addition, this position is eligible for a performance bonus/variable incentive compensation.
